Age is only a number when we talk about our ambition. At the same we've got to understand that it is nature that our energy starts to go down after early 30s. If a 30's something competes in sport again people in their 20's, most likely he is in great disadvantage. So the point is older applicants have to have reasonable goals and find the right track to compete after graduation. Say, going back to the industry where you worked before, avoiding high paying sweatshops like IB and consulting, starting you own business in own pace are all good options. Let's make up a case for discussion. Let's say you have been working in IT for 3 years' programming, 3 year 'technical support, then 3 years' marketing, all together 9 years. You may look too old for some people and some school. Anyhow you went to get an MBA from xxx school. And you come back and find a marketing job in IT sector again. You are now around 33. You work in the same company for 3 years and there comes a vacancy of a marketing director. You've proved yourself with excellent performance and broader perspective because of comprehensive business training. You will mostly likely be among the top candidates. It is quite logical. If ten years later, you are around 43 and the company is in need of a VP or MD. Who will be the best candidate? It is so apparent. It is interesting to see that people here are always want to make quick fortune and take rocket to get the top jobs. |
