Full-time Research Assistant (Strategy and International Business)

Professor Jane Lu's Group, College of Business, City University of Hong Kong

Chair Professor Jane Lu, at the Department of Management, City University of Hong Kong, is seeking applications for a full-time research assistant position beginning in the second half of 2024. The full-time RA position is initially for three months, starting from July 8, with the possibility of extension depending on performance.

Professor Jane Lu is Chair Professor at the Department of Management, City University of Hong Kong. She is the former President of Asia Academy of Management (AAOM) and a Fellow of the Academy of International Business (AIB) and AAOM.

Professor Lu’s research centers on the intersection between organization theory and strategy with a focus on international strategy and non-market strategy. Her earlier research investigates broad level issues that underlie the international strategy of a firm, as well as specific strategic questions, such as how to make a successful foreign entry into a country, or how to manage successfully in a foreign country. Her recent research continues this line of research but with a focus on emerging market firms and their non-market strategies. Her work has appeared in Academy of Management Journal, Administrative Science Quarterly, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Management and Journal of International Business Studies, and other leading journals. She served as Editor-in-Chief of Asia Pacific Journal of Management (2016-2018). She is currently a Senior Editor of Journal of World Business and a Consulting Editor of Journal of International Business Studies.

Job Responsibilities:

Fulltime Research Assistant position at Department of Management, CityU. The main responsibility is to work with Professor Jane Lu on her research projects and teaching programs.

Job responsibilities mainly include but not limited to the following:
1. Assist in research, including searching and downloading academic papers, conducting literature review, collecting/coding/analyzing data, coordinating research projects, etc.
2. Assist in teaching, including course development and design, material preparation, class coordination and other logistic coordination.
3. Assist to contact and coordinate with international scholars and Chinese executives.
4. General administrative tasks, including research grant application, budgeting, conference and meeting arrangement, and correspondence, etc.

Job Requirements:

1. University graduate who has completed or close to complete a master or bachelor’s degree in relevant fields, including management, strategy, international business, OT, entrepreneurship, economics, psychology, or sociology.
2. Being familiar with quantitative research methodology, including data collection, cleaning, and analysis. With experiences in using quantitative analysis software such as Stata and other programming tools.
3. Analytical capability and intellectual curiosity.
4. Excellent English reading, speaking, and writing ability.
5. Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with a broad range of individuals and groups.
6. Being able to commit for one year.
7. Being flexible working hours and willingness to work hard to meet deadlines.
