1. C  a feared army, 应该用 it,mourned the general, 用 him,此外应该用分词连接两个完整的句子
2, D the body mass of the African hippopotamus,所以选D
3. A like 不能用于举例,排除BC,those/that 指代的内容是 designs,所以应该用 those,排除D,最后分句中有 future generation,应该用将来时,所以选 D
4. A  not...but之后的内容应该平行,所以只剩下 A;此外 but instead 冗余,and instead 语义奇怪
5. - B 首先根据句末 natural vegetation 判断之前两者也应该是名词,排除 AD;在 not only 的倒装句中,but also 之后应该有完整的主谓宾,所以排除CE
6. - D less/fewer 只能接 than,排除AC;either or 平行,排除B;最后 citizen 应该用fewer 而不是 less,排除 E
10. D from ... to;between ... and,排除AC;根据句意,强调前者对后者的影响,应该用完成时。

3.(133)AlthoughWilliam Pereira first gained national recognition for his movie set designs, including those for the 1942 film “Reap the Wild Wind,”future generations will remember him as thearchitect of the Transamerica Tower, the Malibu campus of PepperdineUniversity, and the city of Irvine.

A. including those for the 1942 film “Reap the Wild Wind,”future generations will
B. like those forthe 1942 film “Reap the Wild Wind,” future generations
C. like that forthe 1942 film “Reap the Wild Wind,” future generations will
D. including thatfor the 1942 film “Reap the Wild Wind,” future generations will
E. including those for the 1942 film “Reap the Wild Wind,”future generations

5.(135)In thesouthern Pacific island nation of Tuvalu, whose highest elevation is just 15feet above sea level, not only are residents vulnerable to encroaching sealevels resulting from climate change, theycan also expect additional devastation due to an increasing frequency of severecyclones, which can decimate crops, destroy buildings, and natural vegetation.

(A) they can alsoexpect additional devastation due to an increasing frequency of severecyclones, which can decimate crops, destroy buildings, and

(B) they can also expect additional devastation due to anincreasing frequency of severe cyclones, which can decimate crops, buildings, and

(C) but also expect additional devastation due to anincreasing frequency of severe cyclones, which can decimate crops, buildings, and

(D) they can alsoexpect additional devastation due to an increasing frequency of severecyclones, with the effect of decimating crops and destroying buildings, inaddition to

(E) but also expectadditional devastation due to an increasing frequency of severe cyclones, whichcan decimate crops, destroy buildings, and

B错选C

8.(138)Thebowerbirds of Australia derive their name from thefact that the males build elaborate bowers of sticks and twigs to attractfemales, decorating them with flowers and other vegetation in a display of courtship.

a) the fact that the males build elaborate bowers of sticksand twigs to attract females, decorating them with flowers and other vegetation

b) the elaborate bowers of sticks and twigs that the malesbuild and decorate with flowers and other vegetation in order to attract females

c) the elaboratebowers of sticks and twigs, decorated with flowers and other vegetation thatthe males use to attract females

d) the fact thatthe males build elaborate bowers of sticks and twigs, having decorated themwith flowers and other vegetation, to attract females

e) the elaboratebowers of sticks and twigs that are built by the males and decorated withflowers and other vegetation to attract females

A. him; they all mourned his
B. him; they mourned his
C. him; it mourned his
D. him; it mourned their
E. him, it mourned his

(A) the African hippopotamus

D. including that for the 1942 film “Reap the Wild Wind,” future generations will
E. including those for the 1942 film “Reap the Wild Wind,” future generations
A like不能举例首先排除BC,然后set designs是复数,所以排除d,future generations 所以用未来时态

4.(134)Demographers generally divide urban and suburban areas not into individual cities and towns, separated by political boundaries, but into "metropolitan statistical areas," each of which comprises multiple cities and towns with interdependent economies.

(A) divide urban and suburban areas not into individual cities and towns, separated by political boundaries, but into "metropolitan statistical areas," each of which comprises multiple cities and towns with

B
5.(135)In the southern Pacific island nation of Tuvalu, whose highest elevation is just 15 feet above sea level, not only are residents vulnerable to encroaching sea levels resulting from climate change, they can also expect additional devastation due to an increasing frequency of severe cyclones, which can decimate crops, destroy buildings, and natural vegetation.

(A) they can also expect additional devastation due to an increasing frequency of severe cyclones, which can decimate crops, destroy buildings, and

(D) they can also expect additional devastation due to an increasing frequency of severe cyclones, with the effect of decimating crops and destroying buildings, in addition to

(E) but also expect additional devastation due to an increasing frequency of severe cyclones, which can decimate crops, destroy buildings, and
C  这题考察的是not only… but also 以及后面  and的平行  需要看一下不懂的单词
6.(136)Many people are outraged because most cities that have replaced their lead water pipes with copper pipes or galvanized steel pipes have less citizens receiving social services as compared to cities that have not replaced their lead water pipes.

(A) copper pipes or galvanized steel pipes have less citizens receiving social services as compared to

(B) either copper or with galvanized steel pipes have fewer citizens who receive social services than

(C) copper pipes or with galvanized steel pipes have fewer citizens receiving social services as compared to

(D) either copper pipes or galvanized steel pipes have fewer citizens who receive social services than do

(E) copper or with galvanized steel have less citizens who receive social services than do
D 首先是前面 or的开放式平行或者是either or的封闭式平行可以排除掉B,然后是citizens是可数的,所以用fewer 而不是less 排除掉AE,最后是fewer than的比较,所以是D

7.(137)Although television dramas about legal trials, where only select moments in a courtroom are depicted, make jurors’ responsibilities seem straightforward, the reality is much more complex, as we can discover in numerous documentaries about the justice system.

(A) where only select moments in a courtroom are depicted, make jurors’ responsibilities seem straightforward, the reality is much more complex, as we can discover

(E) where only select moments in a courtroom are depicted, makes the responsibilities of jurors seem straightforward, but the reality is much more complex, as can be discovered
8.(138)The bowerbirds of Australia derive their name from the fact that the males build elaborate bowers of sticks and twigs to attract females, decorating them with flowers and other vegetation in a display of courtship.

a) the fact that the males build elaborate bowers of sticks and twigs to attract females, decorating them with flowers and other vegetation

(E) the economist Thorstein Veblen, the most reliable signal of true wealth is an individual's ability and willingness
D ability to do  capability of

10.(140)While the stock market was bouncing back from its 2002 low, U.S. families are still reeling from the recent recession; between 2001 to 2004, typical household savings plummeted nearly 25% and the median household debt rose by a third.
