2.(32)A group of FBI investigators, in connection with the 1975disappearance of Teamsters leader Jimmy Hoffa, are searching a small area of arural Milford Township horse farm.

B. A group of FBIinvestigators, in connection with the 1975 disappearance of Teamsters leaderJimmy Hoffa, is searching a rural Milford Township horse farm, a small areawithin.

C. A group of FBIinvestigators, searching a small area of a rural Milford Township horse farm,is connected with the 1975 disappearance of Teamsters leader Jimmy Hoffa.

D. A group of FBI investigators, in connection with the 1975disappearance of Teamsters leader Jimmy Hoffa, is searching a small area of arural Milford Township horse farm.

E. A small area of a rural Milford Township horse farm isbeing searched by a group of FBI investigators in connection with the 1975disappearance of Teamsters leader Jimmy Hoffa

Themodifier "in connection..." describes the searching of the farm, notthe group of investigators, and so should be attached to the words describingthe act of searching. Choice E is the only choice in which this modifier isplaced in a sensible location.

3.(33)Scientistsare analyzing the movement patterns of slime mold, which grows outward to search for its food sources by retracting from everything but the most efficient route, in aneffort to better understand how to optimize traffic patterns.

(A) grows outward to search for its food sources by retracting
(B) grows outwardto search for its food sources, and the slime mold retracts
(C) grows outward, searching for its food sources and retracting
(D) searches for its food sources by growing outward andretracts
(E) searches forits food sources and grows outward, retracting

6.(36)Althoughthe initial setup of generators and a power grid by Edison and JP Morgan wasrather costly, the electrification oflighting in lower Manhattan doubled work efficiency when the energy costs werecut in half.

(A) the electrificationof lighting in lower Manhattan doubled work efficiency when the energy costswere cut in half
(B) the electrification of lighting in lower Manhattandoubled work efficiency while cutting energy costs in half
(C) theelectrification of lighting in lower Manhattan doubled work efficiency whilecosts were cut to half
(D) lighting electrification in lower Manhattan doubled workefficiency while energy costs were cut in half
(E) lightingelectrification in lower Manhattan doubled work efficiency while costs were cutto half

8.(38)Independentcontractors pay higher taxes, are paid less consistently than statutory employees, and, unlike statutoryemployees, they may freely perform thesame type of work for multiple businesses.

(A) taxes, are paidless consistently than statutory employees, and, unlike statutory employees, they may freely

(C) taxes and paidless consistently than are statutory employees, but they, unlike statutoryemployees, are freely allowed to

(D) taxes and are paid less consistently than are statutoryemployees; in addition, unlike statutory employees, independent contractors canfreely

(E) taxes and paidless consistently than are statutory employees; moreover, unlike statutoryemployees, they are allowed to

D的错误:the lastobservation contrasts with the first two, so in addition is inappropriate. 。。

9.(39)Once thought to be impossible, Alex Honnold successfully“free soloed” Yosemite’s El Capitan in 2017, climbing the 3,000-foot wallwithout the aid of any ropes in just under four hours.

A - Once thought to be impossible, Alex Honnold successfully“free soloed” Yosemite’s El Capitan in 2017, climbing the 3,000-foot wallwithout the aid of any ropes in just under four hours.

B - Once thoughtimpossible, El Capitan was “free soloed” for the first time in 2017 by AlexHonnold, who climbed the 3,000-foot wall in just under four hours without theaid of any ropes.

C - Alex Honnold“free soloed” Yosemite’s El Capitan in 2017, climbing the 3,000-foot wallwithout the aid of ropes in just under four hours and becoming the first personto achieve a feat that was once thought to be impossible.

D - In 2017, AlexHonnold became the first person to “free solo”—climb without the aid of anyropes—Yosemite’s 3,000-foot El Capitan in just under four hours, a feat thatwas once thought to be impossible.

E - In 2017, Alex Honnold became the first person to “freesolo” Yosemite’s El Capitan—a feat once thought impossible—climbing the3,000-foot wall without the aid of any ropes in just under four hours.

开头的thought to be impossible是修饰Alex了。。。

XB8D 前面的pay higher 和 are paid less是两个对比,如果than are statutory相当于只对比后半表示被动的那部分,学到了
XE9D 感觉不出来为什么under four hours 不能算进a feat
..so hard
