Part I: Speaker

Money Laundering

Audio Index:
Slow dialog: 1:28
Explanations: 3:18
Fast dialog: 15:18

Susanna: What’s going on in the office next door? I heard that the police shut down their business.

Clark: You heard right. The cops had long suspected that the business operating out of that office wasn’t legit.

Susanna: Not legit?

Clark: Yeah, it was a front for money laundering. The so-called services it offered were a sham. It was a way for people to send them dirty money and for the business to legitimize those funds.

Susanna: But who was involved?

Clark: I’m not sure, but I imagine they’re people who want to evade taxes or to circumvent certain laws or regulations. I wouldn’t be surprised if their clients were people with underworld connections.

Susanna: You mean organized crime?

Clark: Yeah, they’re probably drug lords, smugglers, and racketeers.

Susanna: Wow and the people who helped them were working next door to us all that time.

Clark: And we didn’t know a thing about it. How awful.

Susanna: How exciting!

time 4 02:49
it continues to point out that growth of productivity can solve the economic issue. but it needs time that the new techology to be adjusted in the productivity
Goeverment did nothing but hurts our economy growth. 记不起来有啥了

In 1900s, US economic was good with low jobless rate and stable inflation rate. BUT, in 2008-09, US econmic turned down. 2 factors: supply of worker(down) & productivity(donw). Short term solution is increasing demand.

2'18
The number of working-age decreased plus ageing of baby-boomers are two reason for boosting recovery.

3'34
The long term is enhancing productivity, but it's hard. US government could do something to help companies on technical enhancement, but current president did nothing and should be blamed.

2'17
Some examples of developing countries and developed countries on agriculture.

1'21
WTo should do something on small trade deals than nothing.

In the mid-1990s, America's economy was brightened. However, during the recession of 2008-09, America's potential growth rate has plummeted. Even though the decline in potential growth has little impact on current situation in the short term, it will cause grim consequence in the long term. But we still need to focus on how to solve these short-term problems: the decline in the supply of workers and their productivity.

Some possible reasons for te dissappearing worker-immigration system, Obamacare and welfare scheme.
2m19s

There is a discrepancy between innovation and production. And the reason for this discrepancy is that firms may need some time to react to such innovation and then translate it into production. There is much America's government could do to boost the investment. However, the leaders in the United States make matters worse. Their plans have fallen victim to America's polarised politics.
3m21s

There is a problem between WTO and India about an agreement. Modi, India's new prime minister refused to sign an agreement that help lubricate trade because WTO would not change its rules to let him expand the food subsidies. The output of agricultural products in India is far more than the consumption. However, many other countries raise their tariff on agricultural products to protect their producers from competition, making India unable to export its surpass products. In order to fix this problem, WTO may need to change its way to purse the goal of trade liberalisation.

The advice for the change of WTO.

WTO那篇好像是本人缺乏太多背景知识,对部分专业名词不理解,导致看得很难受,比如 grand bargain具体是个怎样的策略?Bali agreement又具体是什么。。。

Unlike its peers, such as England, America, ECB has resisted QE to save its lowflation. One reason is that unlike in America, in Europe banks rather than markets dominate the provision of credit. 后面的没怎么看懂,主要是对各个名词的关系很混乱,比如lowflation与deflation, deflation会对debtor造成什么影响,debase currency又对整个经济有什么影响
Another reason is that euro zone is totally different becasue ECB is a supranational central bank. Once it formulate QE, it has to buy the debt of 18 different countries, some of which have poor credit ratings.
