Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Parents should encourage their children to do their schoolwork independently rather than help children to do their schoolwork.

Helping their children when it is needed is definitely one of the biggest duties of good parents. But how to define the word need is causing a heated discussion. Some people believe that is no matter what that the children want while others hold the different opinion that the need is the requirement that should be fulfilled which means helping their children with their schoolwork is not belong to that need. From my perspective, I bolster the second opinion that parents should encourage their kids to finish the schoolwork independently.

The most important reason is that the school works are the tasks for the children. In nature, the works have no relationship with parents. Thus, not giving a helping hand has a justified reason. Just imagine what would be like if the father helps his son with just one single problem set. Then the son may think that his father is brilliant and if he still has problems he can ask his father for help again. The next time, when the kid meets some complicated problems, he may merely go straight to his father and let his father to solve it. If his father comes up with the solution, the son might repeat the procedure he did before and beg for help later instead of thinking by himself. Then the son will fall in to a horrible circle and always needs others' assist.

Encouraging children to do the schoolwork alone might lead them to explore the beauty of the knowledge. For instance, when solving a math problem in the schoolwork, the student has to attempt a plenty of approaches. Once a method works out the problem, the student will fell like gain a huge success with may inspire him or her to try a more difficult problem or at least establish the interest toward the subject.

When children do their work independently, meeting some troubles in inevitable. Parents can't help themselves to offer assistance. However, it is such behavior that may make their children path to the achievement of academic harder. To put in a nutshell, standing beside and not to help their children's schoolwork is a much better ideal for excellent parents.

In the lecture, the professor casts doubt on the conclusion stated in the reading material that the full-length portrait of a teenager girl is Jane Austen for the following three aspects.

Initially, the professor strongly holds his standing ground by challenging that the Austen family claims the girl in the portrait is Jane. The speaker insists that in 1882, Jane already died for 70 years, thus no one had seen Jane at that time. So, nobody can know for certain that the teenager is Jane.

Moreover, the professor indicates the portrait teenager and Cassandra's sketch is similar cannot lead to the verdict that the portrait depicts Jane. Due to the large Austin family, it is possible that the girl in the portrait in one of the relative of Jane who resembles to her instead of herself.

In addition, the professor bolsters that dating the portrait back merely by the style of Ozias Humphrey is one of the biggest flaws and shortcomings of the writer. The professor gives the latest evidence that the stamp of the black canvas reveals the time of the canvas. The person who sold the canvas did not start his business until the year that Jane was 27 years old. Thus, at that time, Jane was much older than the teenager in the full-length portrait.

To put in a nutshell, standing beside and not to help their children's schoolwork is a much better ideal for excellent parents.

In the lecture, the professor concentrates on commercial fossil trade. She claims that the benefits of such behavior overweight the negative effect stated in the reading material. Then, she refutes the writer and bolsters her opinion by the following three aspects.

Initially, the speaker indicates that concluding that not accessing to the fossils will leads to decline in public interest toward the fossils is lack of evidence. She asserts that commercial fossil trade can result in even greater interest owing to the fact that the fossils are available for all the people who can afford it and school can purchase some fossils and display it as well.

In addition, she believes that drawing the conclusion that scientists may miss out some crucial discoveries due to the commerce is one of the biggest flaws and shortcomings of the writer. The professor states that before that fossils go to the market, they have to be identified by the scientists, which is the only way to reveal the true value of a fossils. Thus, it is less likely to miss out some essential evidence.

Finally, the professor holds her standing ground firmly by refuting the third reason in the passage that the untrained collectors may destroy some evidence related to the unearthed fossils. She admits that it is true that some damages will happen, however, the damages can be offset because more fossils are discovered, which can furnish more evidence for the scientist.

Have you ever been to hospital and finally been cured? Have you ever used phone to contact a friend who lives far away from you? Have you ever found a special way that leads you to success? As a normal people, the answer usually is yes or at least for one of those questions. And if your answer is yes, how can you draw the conclusion that you are less happy and less satisfied compared to people in the past. Thus, from my perspective, people do live better lives than those in the past.

Initially, People can live much healthier. Some incurable disease can be deal with. Such phenomenon will not only influence the sick person, but also have effect on the relatives. For instance, one hundred years ago, a mother got a lung cancer. Her husband and son had nothing to do but saw her dead. The mother had to suffer a huge pain as well. For those people, there is no hope at all. But things have changed since some professors discover some methods to cure the cancer. If the cancer can be detected at an early stage, then it can be cut. The mother can enjoy the beauty of life and her relatives do not need to be sadness. It is clearly that the technology about medical can lead to a happier life.

In addition, with the development of the communication technology, people can have more contact with friends. In the past, people were merely familiar with those who lived near them because they would always meet and share feeling about a particular thing. Once the person moved to another country or another part of the town, the communication between them would decrease inevitably. However, after the cell phones have come out, people can contact with friends nearly in anytime and at anyplace. It is such high-tech products that bring people closer to each other.

Finally, people can find more and more opportunities to achieve their self-value. In the past the only way to gain prestige was taking an exam and having an excellent grade. But things are different now. Bill Gates runs a business successfully even he dropped class. Thus there are much more ways to success which will surely add the satisfaction of people.

Due to the statement above, I firmly bolster my standing ground that people now live the most satisfied lives that I have ever seen.

In the lecture, the professor concentrates on the salvage logging after the forest fire. She claims that the negative effect leaded by the logging outweighs the benefits mentioned in the reading material. She refutes the writer and bolsters her standing ground by the following three aspects.

Initially, the speaker indicates that removing the damaged trees can make room for fresh growth is one of the biggest flaws and shortcomings of the author. She is in the view that decomposing is a natural method for the forest. Without this natural process, the new trees may lack of nutrient.

Admittedly, decaying wood will increase the population of insects. However, the professor believes that the writer overestimate the damage caused by the insects. She asserts that the wood will also raise the number of the good insects and bird, which has positive influence in long term.

In addition, she states that concluding that logging has economic advantages is lack of evidence. She thinks that the benefits resulted from the logging is small and not last. As for the job creation, the cost caused by training cannot cover the benefit of salvage logging. Thus, she firmly holds her pointview.

In the lecture, the professor concentrates on the salvage logging after the forest fire. She claims that the negative effects(用复数吧,文中写了三个好处的) leaded by the logging outweighs the benefits mentioned in the reading material. She refutes the writer and bolsters her standing ground by the following three aspects.

Initially, the speaker indicates that removing the damaged trees can make room for fresh growth is one of the biggest flaws and shortcomings(同一个意思,留一个就好~ of the author. She is in the view that decomposing(用decomposition比较好,我当时就没有想出来 is a natural method for the forest. Without this natural process, the new trees may lack of nutrient.

Admittedly(这个有让步的意思,感觉用在这怪怪的), decaying wood will increase the population of insects. However, the professor believes that the writer overestimates the damage caused by the insects. She asserts that the wood will also raise the number of the good insects and bird, which has positive influence in long term.

In addition, she states that concluding(the conclusion) that logging has economic advantages is lack of evidence. She thinks that the benefits resulted from the logging is small and not last (long). As for the job creation, the cost caused by training cannot cover the benefit of salvage logging. Thus, she firmly holds her pointview(没有这个用法吧,改成perspective). (这个细节听得不仔细,lecturer的意思是:helicopter needs much money to maintain, the salvage logging demands experienced people who have received specific training,再听一下吧~

Conclusion1.词汇很好,文章基本上没有语法性错误~

          2.听力细节需要加强
