As is described in this issue, author believes that scientist and other researchers should focus their research on areas that are likely to benefit the greatest number of people. In my point of view, what author says in not thoroughly correct and as far as I am concerned, besides focusing on areas that are likely to benefit the greatest number of people, scientists and researchers should also focus their researchers on areas that will benefit small group of people.
     There is no doubt that scientists and researchers’ discovery should benefit as much people as possible. Since the time and money of scientists are limited, more people scientists could benefit, more value scientists create to increase general welfare. If scientists’ studies benefit a large mount of people, then it means there will be a lot of people who will donate money to science so that scientists could have more money to put on their research. Take famous agricultural scientist Yuan Long ping as an example, his super crops can produce rice 2 times or even 3 times more than before, so that farmers can earn more money by farming and people could spend less money on food. As people become richer and richer, government’s income increase dramatically and give Yuan a lot of money for him to do research.
However, should a small group of people’s interests deserve being focused by scientists? I think the answer is yes. Everyone has their own right to chose what they like and what they don’t like, it’s their freedoms as well as rights. Scientist should also focus on these areas to give small group of people what they deserved and make them believe that they are not ignored. People who gets brain cancer is only a small group. But scientists are still trying to find a way to save these people’s life even though they are just a small group of people. Scientists should focus on small groups needs because these people also need cares, they are entitled the right to express their needs and their voices should be heard.
       What’s more, there are some areas that even just benefit small group of people, scientist still need to focus on. For example, the military is only has small amount of people but scientists still need to work very hard to develop new weapons, new defense systems. The focusing on military are similar to the focusing on other small groups of people, these focus not only directly benefit these small groups of people, but also give everyone in this country confidence and tell everyone that no one will be left alone because we are a great nation.
      To sum up, I think scientists should not only focus their research on areas that are likely to benefit the greatest number of people, but also should focus on areas that will benefit small groups of people because focusing on small groups of people sometimes not only is about benefits but also can help a nation to become more united and stronger.
