As is described in this issue, author believes that Government officials should rely on their own judgment rather than unquestioningly carry out the will of the people they serve. As far as I am concerned, what author says is not thoroughly correct. In my point of view, Government officials should not only rely on their own judgment and they should listen to their people’s opinions rather than unquestioningly carry out the will of the people they serve. One nation’s population is large and thus people’s wills can vary from one to another. Rich people may want Government to put some money in military defense so that this country can be stronger while poor people may want Government to put money into health care system so that they won’t need to worry about having no money to cure their diseases in future. If Government officials unquestioningly carry out the will of the people they serve, then the policy will become quite confusing because the policy is so changeable, or there will be no policy at all because Government officials don’t know which people’s will should be carried out. Even though Government officials should not carry out the will of the people unquestioningly, Government officials should also not rely only on their own judgment. Government officials are often consisted of the elite of this nation, they are better educated and have better judgments than the people they serve. However, their status as upper class of this society may cause disconnection with people in other classes. If they don’t know what’s the real need of their people, their decisions could not have too much good effect. Take the Qin dynasty as an example, at that time, almost all the important decisions were made by the emperor but emperor don’t know the real situation of his people. The emperor made a lot of wrong judgments which lead his empery to the end even though the emperor was the cleverest person at that time. As far as I am concerned, Government should set up an institution which are consisted from people from different classes, different occupation. This institution can express their opinions when Government officials have judgments to make. Just like the NPC members in China, they are people from all kind of area and each of them stands for certain kind of groups to make sure this group of people’s voice could be heard. By this way, Government officials can know what’s the need of their people so they can make a better judgment and they don’t have to unquestioningly carry out the will of the people they serve. To sum up, because people’s ideas toward one thing could vary from one another, government can not unquestioningly carry out the will of the people they serve and because government officials sometimes don’t know what’s the real need of their people, they should not rely only on their own judgments. Government officials should set up an institution so that they can hear their people’s voice to make a better judgment. words 505 |
