I basically agree with the claim"Nations should pass laws to preserve any remaining wilderness areas in their natural state, even if these areas could be developed for economic gain". Of great environmental, historical as well as scientific value, preserving remaining wilderness areas is indeed of crucial importance , however, it is not mutually exclusive with economic interests, and a win-win success could be made if we handle properly.
Firstly, protecting wilderness areas is not only essential but compursory. On one hand, wilderness areas are home to most wild animals and plants ---places for wildlife to live and multiply on and once destroyed, it would seriously threaten the lives of these wildlife. In addition, any wildlife is one of the most important links in natural's food chain, once out of existance, the whole wildlife chain would be hit hard even it would have a serious impact on the ability of remaining species, including human, to survive. On the other hand, most primitive tribes, cradle of human civilization, live there. Their living styles, traditional ceremonies, religious rites.etc all have a great historical value and are treasures to our modern society. So preserving them is a necessity.
In addition, while protecting these wilderness areas, we human, also can benefit a lot from it. First, the various biological resources in wilderness areas could provide opportunities for science researching. For example, without an organic molecule from willows, aspirin cannot be invented. Likewise, without bats radar cannot be designed, either. Therefore, preserving wilderness areas means protecting our research resources. Second, used for recreation, wilderness can inspire people's emotions and feelings and numerous illustrious works are created in the process of enjoying the wilderness. Consider Li Bai, one of the greatest poet of China. It is his rich experience of wilderness that made him feel to be part of something larger than himself, then quantities of immortal classics were born. So preserving the recreational value requires us to protect the integrity of the wildness.
However, preserving wilderness areas and economics are not mutually exclusive. And the yellowstone national park is a good instance. Its establish, not only is beneficial to then protection of biodiversity, but bring colossal interests to The U.S. Travel Service. Therefore, preserving wilderness is not necessarily needing to sacrifice economic gain. We could make a win-win success if handling properly.
Summed up, preserving wilderness areas is our liability and obligation. And the acquisition of economic gain is also available. It is highly suggested that governments should be trained to have a strong decision-making ability.
