看了好多老帖，前人有很多不同观点，不过答案是E，不是争议题 此题我思考了将近一个小时，现在我要对此题做一个完美的总结 做总结的目的是下次有CDer再搜到此题时不要再耗费大量时间 同时希望路过的同志指出不足，供后人参考 （1）题目：GWD-23-Q23

What if I fall behind in paying my business taxes? 习惯搭配有：fall behind with\on + sth；fall behind in doing sth 4）prove作系动词表示主动表被动（重要） prove有主动表被动的用法，作为系动词使用： prove作"证明是;结果是;事实说明"解时,用作连系动词,可用于以下句型:
a).prove+形容词
The handbook proved most useful.这本手册证明很有用.
The medicine proved satisfactory.结果证明这药疗效令人满意.
b).prove+名词
She proved a very strict teacher.结果证明她是一位非常严格的老师.
His efforts, however, proved a failure.但他的努力结果都失败了.
c).prove+介词短语或副词
Perhaps this book will prove of some use to you in your studies.也许这本书会对你的研究有用处.
The power station was completed and proved up to standard.这座发电站建成了,证明质量符合标准.
d).prove+动词不定式
As time went on, Einstein's theory proved to be correct.随着时间的推移,爱因斯坦的理论证明是正确的.
She may prove to be the most suitable person for the job.结果她可能是最适合干这项工作的人. （3）选项分析 A while表示对比，应该用but表示转折；fall behind in payment不对，fall behind on\with payment或fall behind in paying A while表示对比，应该用but表示转折；fall behind in payment不对，fall behind on\with payment或fall behind in paying
B while表示对比，应该用but表示转折；fall behind in payment不对，fall behind on\with payment或fall behind in paying；proved和fell并列改变意思，原文是将falling作为伴随动作，修饰前面动词proved C falling months behind in its paying不对，出现one's doing错误，应该把its去掉，变成falling months behind in paying D proving 使得but后面成不了句子，即使补上前面因避免重复而省略的the healthy care company ，变成the healthy care company proving ，but后也没有动词做谓语 E 正确答案，因避免重复而省略the healthy care company ，补上应该为
but then the healthy care company proved unable to handle the increase in business, falling months behind in paying.这里proved主动表被动，作为系动词，相当于
the healthy care company was unable to... （4）以往的错误观点 1）认为the healthy care company proved错，必须是the healthy care company was proved，以此来排除ABC 评价：这种观点不知道prove可以主动代被动，是错的 2）认为E是省略主谓，即省略了the healthy care company became（或was），如果是这样的话，补全为 but then the healthy care company became（was） proved unable to handle the increase in business, falling months behind in paying. 评价：这里was proved不对，应该采用主动代替被动，去掉was 3）认为AB中的its payment to doctors and hospitals应该改成its payment for doctors and hospitals
doctors and hospitals应该改成its payment for doctors and hospitals doctors and hospitals应该改成its payment for doctors and hospitals 评价：这个我倒不觉得，我认为payment可以看成是pay的变体，pay从来没有用于pay for sb的，都是pay sb to do或pay sb for sth等，所以我觉得原来的payment to doctors and hospitals可以接受
补充： AB用while来表示company前后时期的比较是不对的，while做表示对比时，主从句动作也要同时发生。在这里while 和 then冲突 。具体见8楼。同时谢谢aeoluseros补充。
