underneath ...

应该是取这个意思吧，我查了一下
barrage//an overwhelming number a barrage of questions.
So I took a wild guess→amid an overwhelming number of criticisms of...( I don't think the prep. FOR should be followed here, instead I suggest the use of OF )
hmm...I would like to pick up AMONG here, since underneath is gerenally used to refer to sth. hidden.
AMID....can be used before growing concerns
ORZ....anyway, I am still not sure.
