AA: “The Saluda Consolidated High School offers over 200 different courses from which its students can choose. A much smaller private school down the street offers a basic curriculum of only 80 different courses, but it consistently sends a higher proportion of its graduating seniors on to college than Consolidated does. By eliminating at least half of the courses offered there and focusing on a basic curriculum, we could improve student performance at Consolidated and also save many tax dollars.”

AI: “All groups and organizations should function as teams in which everyone makes decisions and shares responsibilities and duties. Giving one person central authority and responsibility for a project or task is not an effective way to get work done.”

Most of Portugal’s 250,000 university students boycotted classes in a one-day strike to protest a law that requires them to contribute $330 a year toward the cost of higher education, previously paying $7 per year.
A. year toward the cost of higher education, previously paying $7 per year
B. year toward the cost of higher education, for which was previously paid $7 per year
C. year, compared to the previously $7 per year, toward the cost of higher education
D. year toward the cost of higher education, instead of the $7 per year required previously
E. year as opposed to the $7 per year required previously for the cost of higher education
Answer: D

有一个sth invoke ... 选项有1. the way in which A, B, C to do... ; 2. A, B, C to do等
有个credit ...with, 还有题是annually / a year 重复
Jean-Michel Basquiat isn't A of the United States visual art_____ C,选项有as much as, so much as, rather than, instead of等,我选的rather than, 不确定。。。
没碰到之前JJ说的主谓一致和not only, but also…

因为这个画家不仅仅要会使用watercolor,还要会使用other mediums such as oil
X2: this is true. However, 现在的watercolor都是amateur在画,the inferior quality of those watercolor paintings make them less attractive to the buyers.
问X2 alleges the flaw in X1 by suggesting which of the following about the collection of paintings by famous artists?

选项有:1、夏威夷岛和帝王火山链是由同一个hotspot形成的;2、显示了an ancient movement of the plate;我选的是由一个hotspot形成的,因为觉得ancient不对,供参考。

Because the earth’s magnetic field varies in both time and space, rock magnetization provides two ways to determine how plates have moved. First, geologists can study the time variation. At irregular time intervals, the planet’s field reverses polarity: the North and South magnetic poles switch places. Consider what that means for lava erupting at mid-ocean ridges. When the rock emerges and cools, the magnetization of its minerals lines up like magnetic filings pointing, say, to the north. Plate tectonics then carries the rocks away from the ridge. After several hundred thousand years or so, the polarity flips, and from that moment newly formed rocks are magnetized the opposite way. These, too, are carried away from the ridge. The polarity eventually flips back, and the cycle continues. The result is a series of horizontal stripes recorded in the oceanic crust, alternating between north-pointing and south-pointing magnetic minerals—a geologic version of tree rings. Geologists date the stripes by matching them against the timeline of polarity reversals. They then use time and distance data to calculate a plate’s direction and speed relative to an adjoining plate.

The second technique exploits the fact that the direction of the earth’s magnetic field has two components: horizontal (declination) and vertical (inclination). When you rely on a compass to find the direction of north, you use the declination, but if you look closely at the compass needle, you will see that it is also tilted slightly with respect to the horizontal. As Neil Opdyke of the University of Florida demonstrated in a classic study in the late 1960s, the inclination is directly related to latitude. Measuring inclination reveals the latitude where the rock originally formed and hence the minimum distance that the plate must have moved since then.
