65. Which of the following most logically completes the argument?

Utrania was formerly a major petroleum exporter, but in recent decades economic stagnation and restrictive regulations inhibited investment in new oil fields. In consequence, Utranian oil exports dropped steadily as old fields became depleted. Utrania's currently improving economic situation, together with less-restrictive regulations, will undoubtedly result in the rapid development of new fields . However, it would be premature to conclude that the rapid development of new fields will result in higher oil exports, because _

(A) the price of oil is expected to remain relatively stable over the next several years

(B) the improvement in the economic situation in Utrania is expected to result in a dramatic increase in the proportion of Utranians who own automobiles

(C) most of the investment in new oil fields in Utrania is expected to come from foreign sources

(D) new technology is available to recover oil from old oil fields formerly regarded as depleted

(E) many of the new oil fields in Utrania are likely to be as productive as those that were developed during the period when Utrania was a major oil exporter

66. Hardin argued that grazing land held in common (that is, open to any user) would always be used less carefully than private grazing land. Each rancher would be tempted to overuse common land because the benefits would accrue to the individual, while the costs of reduced land quality that results from overuse would be spread among all users. But a study comparing 217million acres of common grazing land with 433 million acres of private grazing land showed that the common land was in better condition.

The answer to which of the following questions would be most useful in evaluating the significance, in relation to

Hardin's claim, of the study described above?

(A) Did any of the ranchers whose land was studied use both common and private land?

(B) Did the ranchers whose land was studied tend to prefer using common land over using private land for grazing?

(C) Was the private land that was studied of comparable quality to the common land before either was used for grazing?

(D) Were the users of the common land that was studied at least as prosperous as the users of the private land?

(E) Were there any owners of herds who used only common land, and no private land, for grazing?

67. A compelling optical illusion called the illusion of velocity and size makes objects appear to be moving more slowly the larger the objects are. Therefore, a motorist's estimate of the time available for crossing a highway with a small car approaching is bound to be lower than it would be with a large truck approaching.

The conclusion above would be more properly drawn if it were made clear that the

(A) truck's speed is assumed to be lower than the car's

(B) truck's speed is assumed to be the same as the car's

(C) truck's speed is assumed to be higher than the car's

(D) motorist's estimate of time available is assumed to be more accurate with cars approaching than with trucks approaching

(E) motorist's estimate of time available is assumed to be more accurate with trucks approaching than with cars approaching

68. Manufacturers sometimes discount the price of a product to retailers for a promotion period when the product is advertised to consumers. Such promotions often result in a dramatic increase in amount of product sold by the manufacturers to retailers. Nevertheless, the manufacturers could often make more profit by not holding the promotions.

Which of the following, if true, most strongly supports the claim above about the manufacturers' profit?

(A) The amount of discount generally offered by manufacturers to retailers is carefully calculated to represent the minimum needed to draw consumers' attention to the product.

(B) For many consumer products the period of advertising discounted prices to consumers is about a week, not sufficiently long for consumers to become used to the sale price.

(C) For products that are not newly introduced, the purpose of such promotions is to keep the products in the minds of consumers and to attract consumers who are currently using competing products.

(D) During such a promotion retailers tend to accumulate in their warehouses inventory bought at discount; they then sell much of it later at their regular price.

(E) If a manufacturer fails to offer such promotions but its competitor offers them, that competitor will tend to attract consumers away from the manufacturer's product.

200Waymarshstudents参加了一个protest,而the other 12,000 stayed in campus,说所以有人认为那12,000个更好地代表了全state的学生,所以不用响应他们的protest.

The following appeared in the editorial section of a local newspaper:

This past winter, 200 students from Waymarsh State College traveled to the state capitol building to protest against proposed cuts in funding for various state college programs. The other 12,000 Waymarsh students evidently weren’t so concerned about their education: they either stayed on campus or left for winter break. Since the group who did not protest is far more numerous, it is more representative of the state’s college students than are the protesters. Therefore the state legislature need not heed the appeals of the protesting students.”

P: The Utran oil production decreased, so Utran will make less-restricted plan to develop the oil new fields.
C: however, this plan would not help Utran to change its economic status.
Complete: there are other factors involved.
A: b
(A) the price of oil is expected to remain relatively stable over the next several years
(B) the improvement in the economic situation in Utrania is expected to result in a dramatic increase in the proportion of Utranians who own automobiles
(C) most of the investment in new oil fields in Utrania is expected to come from foreign sources
(D) new technology is available to recover oil from old oil fields formerly regarded as depleted
new technology is not mentioned here.
(E) many of the new oil fields in Utrania are likely to be as productive as those that were developed during the period when Utrania was a major oil exporter
Utra was a major oil exporter

45s
P: The common land which used by owners normally can be more productive than the private land, so people assumed that the common land have lower quality than do the private land.
C: however, the common land has better quality than the private land.
Evaluate:
A: C

(A) Did any of the ranchers whose land was studied use both common and private land?
irrelevant
(B) Did the ranchers whose land was studied tend to prefer using common land over using private land for grazing?
usage of land is irrelevant to quality of the land
(C) Was the private land that was studied of comparable quality to the common land before either was used for grazing?
(D) Were the users of the common land that was studied at least as prosperous as the users of the private land?
无关
(E) Were there any owners of herds who used only common land, and no private land, for grazing?

P: The larger objects approaches, the slower the objects moves.
C: On the highway, the small car crosses the bridge more slowly than the large car.
I: The truck has actually speed faster than the car.

不应该weaken premise, think premise as a solid evidence.

35s
P: The manufactures normally sold the products with promotion to the consumers.
C: However, the manufactures can still make profit without making these promotions.
S: The manufactures still have a lot goods which they didnt finish to sale during the promotion in the storage, and they can sale these goods in original price later.
A:
A) The amount of discount generally offered by manufacturers to retailers is carefully calculated to represent the minimum needed to draw consumers' attention to the product.
still, this indicated that the manufactures cannot make profit without the promotion.
(B) For many consumer products the period of advertising discounted prices to consumers is about a week, not sufficiently long for consumers to become used to the sale price.
we dont care if the consumers can get benefit or not.
(C) For products that are not newly introduced, the purpose of such promotions is to keep the products in the minds of consumers and to attract consumers who are currently using competing products.
the purpose of promotions for products is irrelevant.
(D) During such a promotion retailers tend to accumulate in their warehouses inventory bought at discount; they then sell much of it later at their regular price.
BINGO!
(E) If a manufacturer fails to offer such promotions but its competitor offers them, that competitor will tend to attract consumers away from the manufacturer's product.
这个是weaken说明manufacture cannot make profit.
