Hi Jon, I am from a 211 economics&finance university, applying for 2014fall MSF and MFin program. ...
Hi there, my friend. Thanks so much for your question! I’d love to help you out. You have solid GRE and TOEFL scores, along with relevantwork-related experience. However, your GPA is not too impressive (unless you are in a super tight grading system and you’re actually ranked well). My advice is that you should aim for schools like UIUC, Purdue, andCase Western Reserve University. These are good programs that definitely fall into your range. If you want to reach for even better programs like Rochester, Vanderbilt, and WUSTL, you’ll need to craft some incredible essays for your applications. In your essays, you must address your ultimate career goals, your specific motivations for applying to certain schools, how you can specifically benefit from each program, and how you will ultimately add value to their university community. You need to be convincing in all of these areas in order to have success in your applications. I hope this helps, and let me know if you have any further questions!
