答案是选B。 但我认为 swimming 在这里应该是修饰前面GE（逻辑主语）, 这里放在speed 后面容易引起歧义。 而且我认为这里comma+Ving也不满足RON说的两个条件，1，事件的因果关系，2，事件同时发生！

OG上有一道类似的题目OG13 sc35（在下面）, comma + Ving在这里并不好，OG对于下面错误B的解释是, the word "earning" takes the pilot herself, not the records, as its subject. “earning" is close to "the records", not to Jacqueling Cochran, making this sentence hard to process.

By 1940, the pilot Jacqueline Cochran held seventeen official national and international speed records,and she earned them at a time when aviation was still so new for many of the planes she flew to beof dangerously experimental design.

(A) and she earned them at a time when aviation was still so new for many of the planes she flew to be

我觉得这两个题目是一样的，根据OG解释， prep2012 SC 45 答案B是错误的！

有句话是这么说的，答案都是比较出来的，LZ这两道题的答案事实上都不是最好的。
因为 The -ing form is very flexible. The use of the -Ing form works best when you want to express the result of the main clause.
但与其他选项相比，答案选项就显得合理多了。

同意LS，在判断是否同时发生的时候有时候真的不好下结论一定不同时或者一定同时，这时候应该找其它的split点.....另外，第二题中held和第一题的set的感觉不太一样。。。而且B选项中后面显然有更大的错误啊。。。。。

我和楼上的观点是一样的，不过还是想和大家交流，交流，呵呵！

【第一題】
（1）根據parallelism排除ADE，其中A項還redundancy（but also/as well）
（2）B項，present participle作為verb modifier，有兩種要求：
    （I）、verb modifier和subject must logically make sense  
       （II）、verb modifier要修飾句子中的verb，即能夠answer questions about the verb (how, when, where, why..)。

對於（I）， Gertrude Ederle and swim can logically make sense;
對於（II），cross the channel和set a record都是swim帶來的，可以說 cross the channel by swimming【how】，set a record by swimming【how】。所以swim修飾了句子中的verb。
沒有發現其他明顯錯誤，pass。

（3）C項，and前後不平行，排除。

【第二題】
A項，so...that固定搭配
B項，修飾時間用when/in which，非that
C項，these不能單獨作為noun使用
D項，so...that和such...that混用

GE not only crossed... but also set, swimming ....
1. 主语GE和swim之间是主谓关系。
2. swimming修饰前面分句, 回答了how he crossed and how he set这个问题。
因此没有问题

JC hold a record, earning...
1. 主语JC和earn之间是主谓关系没问题
2. 但是earning 能修饰hold吗？
    --能回答how，when，why，where等修饰动作的问题吗？
    -- earning what？record 对啦，归根到底还是要说earning record的，那么为啥不用earned 直接修饰record来的简单易读呢？
