What do GMAT scores predict? GMAT scores are a valid predictor of academic performance in the first year of a graduate management program. Since creating the GMAT exam 50 years ago, we have conducted hundreds of validity studies that demonstrate this fact. In the past ten years, we’ve conducted almost 300 studies for graduate management programs all over the world. The median correlation between GMAT scores and firstyear grades was 0.51 (perfect correlation is 1.0). The median correlation between undergraduate grade point average and firstyear grades was 0.28. Thus, GMAT scores are generally a better predictor of performance in the first year of business school than undergraduate grades, though we advise admissions committees to use both when evaluating candidates.
How reliable are GMAT scores? Test scores actually earned on any given occasion are only an approximation of your true ability. However, our research indicates that you will most likely earn a Total score within about 30 points of a score reflecting your true ability.Your Verbal and Quantitative scores are probably within 2.9 points of your true scores. If you take the GMAT exam more than once, you probably will not receive exactly the same scores. “Reliability” indicates the degree to which you would keep the same score if you were to take the test more than once (perfect reliability is 1.00). The average reliability of the GMAT Total score is 0.93. Average reliability is 0.87 for the Verbal score and 0.90 for the Quantitative score. Therefore, the reliability of GMAT scores is very high
How do I send my scores to schools? Approximately 20 days after your test date, your Official Score Report, including the digital photograph you provided at the test center and copies of your essays, are made available to any graduate management program you designated when you took the GMAT exam. Not all graduate management programs elect to receive photographs and essays. Once scores are made available, a school you designate can access your scores at any time. If you have not yet designated schools to receive your scores, or if you want to designate additional schools, visit www.mba.com or call GMAT Customer Service. We will report results from all tests you took in the last five years.
How will retaking the GMAT exam affect my chances of admission? Admissions committees treat multiple scores in a variety of ways. They may use only your highest scores, your most recent scores, or an average of your scores. You should contact schools directly to learn how they use multiple GMAT scores.
How long are my GMAT scores valid? Scores are usually reported up to five years from the date you took the exam. With a special request and for an additional fee, you may report scores up to 10 years from the date you took the exam. However, scores more than five years old will be accompanied by a statement indicating that they must be interpreted with care; many institutions will not accept scores over five years old. On behalf of GMAC, Pearson VUE destroys all scorerecords more than 10 years old.
两次考试日期间隔31自然日(区别于GRE是每个日历月都能考一次) Q: How often can I take the GMAT exam? A: You can take the GMAT once every 31 calendar days and no more than five times in a 12-month period.
Items Not Permitted During the Test Session No testing aids are permitted during the test session or during breaks, and there is limited space for you to store your personal belongings. Testing aids include but are not limited to the following:
Telephones, cellular (mobile) phones, or other communication devices Notes Scratch paper Calculators or watch calculators Watches, stop watches, or watch alarms Personal data assistants (PDAs) Beepers or pagers Photographic devices Stereos or radios Any other electronic devices that could aid testing Books or pamphlets Dictionaries, translators, or thesauri Pens or any other writing utensils Rulers or any other measuring devices
How AWA Is Scored Each of your essays in the AWA section will be given two independent ratings, one of which may be performed by an automated essay-scoring engine. The automated essay-scoring engine is an electronic system that evaluates more than 50 structural and linguistic features, including organization of ideas, syntactic variety, and topical analysis.
If the two ratings differ by more than one point, another evaluation by an expert reader is required to resolve the discrepancy and determine the final score. College and university faculty members trained as readers for the AWA will consider the following:
the overall quality of your ideas about the issue and argument presented your overall ability to organize, develop, and express those ideas the relevant supporting reasons and examples you used your ability to control the elements of standard written English In considering the elements of standard written English, readers are trained to be sensitive and fair in evaluating the responses of examinees whose first language is not English.
If you have reason to believe that your scores for the Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) portion of the GMAT test are not accurate, you may request that your essays be rescored using the Essay Rescore Request Form
关于是否应该猜题的一篇官方blog Based on an analysis of thousands of actual GMAT records, the question of whether to guess or leave questions blank (at the end) depends on the number of items you have left, the section you are on (Verbal or Quantitative), and your relative ability. Here is how it breaks down:
If you only have 1 or 2 items left in either section, it doesn’t make much difference if you guess or omit the question. You should finish the item you are on to the best of your ability and not worry about the others. If you are on the Verbal section, it doesn’t make much difference if you guess when you have up to about 5 questions left. You should finish the item you are on to the best of your ability and not worry about the others. In the Quantitative section, your odds improve if you guess and complete all the questions rather leave the final questions unanswered. After all, there are fewer questions in this section, so each item left blank in this section comprises a higher proportion of the test than in the verbal section. Guess as smartly as you can, but guess nonetheless—do not leave items blank. If you have an idea what your relative ability is ahead of time (i.e., you’ve taken a practice test or diagnostic test), then your guess versus omit strategy differs based on where you think you would fall. If your scores tend to be relatively low on the section, leaving the questions blank may actually result in a higher score than getting even the easy questions wrong by guessing. If you are near the top of the scale, you have farther to fall if you omit the items and therefore you should guess. Low ability—omit; high ability—guess; medium ability—see above. http://www.mba.com/mbacommunity/MBA_com/b/officialgmat/archive/2009/09/17/tactics-and-guessing.aspx
