I guess the program primarily wants to help students satisfy the 150 rule and set up for the CPA exam. If you take the UMich Macc program, you'll have to apply to the PhD program once you starts the Macc program. If you haven't taken enough math and economics in your undergraduate work, a Umich Macc degree probably cannot help you much in terms of PhD application. Off course, you can take more econ after you graduate from there. I heard that the MAcc and the MBA students from UMich Ross take classes together sometimes. Anyway, I just recommend you to explore more about MBA which might prove more value in the long run.
