In terms of logic, "visitors" can't be compared with "popular belief" in choices B, C, and D.

A中contrary是形容词，逻辑上有B和C同样的问题吧？（see OG68）我觉得A最好的原因是：

Contrary to popular belief/opinion是固定用法，所以不会认为是victors are contrary to popular belief。

朗文词典中有这样例句：In contrast with your belief that we shall fail, I konw we shall succeed. 好像I和belief也可以比较。

这道题是不是记住Contrary to popular belief/opinion是固定用法就行了。

a good point: contrary is an adj., but in this idiom usage, it stands alone, just adding extra info, without comparing anything or anybody. didn't think this way, before. thx!
