You want to start to prepare your presentation for more than a month, or start later when you get your idea?

As a student, I have to admit that academics is always my first priority. In order to develop my academics skills, it is meaningful for me to do more researches, more investigation, or more exploration. Therefore, in my opinion, to start to prepare presentation for a relatively long time is worthwhile, because it can offer more chances for me to do lots of thing for the topic, like abroad survey, learning new fields, revising the detail, or discussing with professors.

If you can finish a good paper in your own right, you may be able to get an excellent one with a mounts of qualified discussion with your professor. It needs a long period of time. For example, I have involved in a research on environment science for 2 years. Once a short paper, which got me in trouble, was about how human activities affect a relatively certain small region. I was struggling about the scope, wanting to join many aspects of historical data like the population, the commercial activities, agricultural activities, etc, but it is just a 7-8 pages paper. Then I talked to my professor to ask some advises; we discuss the paper several times. Finally I decided to just focus on a specific major activity, which plays the deciding role in the local climate. If I did not start early, probably I could not, involving such a lot of details, discussed with my professor, who was always super busy that I even cannot see him at office hour.

In the process of discussion, the most frequent work I have done is revising. My professor told me that a perfect paper needs to be revised again and again, that it will be ideal from the structure to the details. So if we do not have enough time to examine and revise the paper, we cannot make it out elaborately. For example, once my little brother misunderstood the topic of an assignment, then he started the paper the day before deadline. As a consequence, when he found the mistake, talking with his friends about the assignment at morning of the final day, he was dazzle at that moment, having no time to do anything with his work. Even if he finished the work well at that night, he was taking the risk of not handling it well in one night. So in any case we should start our work early.

Some people claims that to start at the moment we get the idea is efficient. However, it maybe did the opposite effect. As the purpose of an assignment is to help us thinking, handling the skills, recognize the knowledge, which we should take in count when evaluating the efficiency, to work out a paper in one night and to waste all the other time is nothing more than inefficient. Therefore, in any case, we should start our paper as early as possible.
