第一步：只看这些形式：

B that were cut
C having been
D cut
E cut
第二步：排除C，这是最不可能成为选项的东西
第三步：A B 一组，D E 一组，这两组的差别是A B 啰嗦，能用过去分词的不需要定语从句，简单原则，排除A B，选出D E。
第四步：D E 差别在于YIELD的单复数，主语是TRENCHES 复数，所以选出E。
