Stanford Finmath VS CMU MSCF 该选择哪个呢？（附背景）[2.23更新]

很感谢大家能够这么热心的回答，结论基本上跟我想象的差不多，vote for Stanford是看重长期发展，毕竟Stanford的校友资源和名气都比CMU要强太多；而vote for CMU的则是看重短期就业，CMU MSCF在quant/trading圈内的评价也确实相当牛，但是据说近两年MSCF找工作不如原来给力了？求在读的大牛们详解。不过到底如何抉择我目前也没有想好，还希望能够有CD上的高手能够给我更多的建议。如果各位设身处地的想一下，大家又会最终去哪里呢？

另外，昨天CICC的一位ED跟我说他更倾向Stanford，因为当两个项目差别不大的时候，他们在真正招人的时候更看的是哪个好学校毕业的。大家对于这一点怎么看呢？如果是这样的话，那CMU那么高的就业率和那么好的placement是怎样产生的呢？

为了表示诚意，附上自己的背景供各位参考：

ZJU本科 数学系 GPA 3.95 G1430 T105 Sub 95% 国奖+一些省级学科竞赛的奖项 UCLA暑期交流 3封推荐信都还不错 2个不错的实习、2个水实习以及3个金融相关水科研

ps. 直接写出学校也是让大家不用纠结什么top 4 top 5的，同时有些对我的学校的讨论甚至攻击还是免了吧，谢谢

很高兴能得到这两个项目的青睐（不过都没有奖学金），但是问题也随之而来。但在这两个都是tier 1的项目中我真的不知道该选哪个。

一方面，Stanford的名气自不用说，但是有点无奈它的地理位置和就业率。另一方面，CMU我被录在NY Campus，所以地理位置是绝对的优势，再加上无敌的就业率确实也很吸引人，但是美中不足就是学校的名气在美国以外好像并不是很好。所以求大家帮忙分析，到底应该选择哪个呢？

我的理想目标：毕业后能够在美国找到一份大行的quant或者quant trader的工作，做量化交易相关的事情。奋斗个几年然后再回国，在大陆或者香港都行。

ps. 主要家里人都特别希望我去Stanford。。。所以这几天搞的我也有点动摇

Stanford今年的MSFM改到ICME下面了 叫做MS track in Mathematical & Computational Finance 不知前辈知不知道 这个新项目号称will be directed by the same faculty leadership 那我想问一下 根据你的了解 项目的质量会有所改变吗？ btw 今年QuantNet ranking貌似没有Stanford了 是因为在考察这个新项目么...... 还有这个项目是1 yr的还是1.5 yrs呢？ 额 才想到 如果1 yr的话前辈可能就不太了解改革的事了...... Anyway 求回复 先谢过了~~

进斯坦福这个项目最重要的还是它是斯坦福，基本好的机会你都是有机会去竞争的，它作为一个项目本身的设置肯定是不如NYU和CMU，甚至Baruch，课程理论，教学的都是教授。不过因为它是S，CS和STAT的牛逼课程想听都能去听，而且基本上大行，大的buyside firm的trading，quant都会过来S招人，加上项目人少，所以机会不少。不过面试的东西基本都靠自己准备，这边的课程不会帮到你多少。但因为地理问题，而且program的career service很一般，基本靠自己，来oncampus的大公司找不到的话小公司就得靠自己去搜索啦。
NYU, CMU的优点很明显，地理，项目本身的名气，项目设计，与业界的联系等等。
怎么选还是看自己吧。我个人认为第一份工作找到同样好的情况下，s不错~

课程理论，教学的都是教授。

stanford这个所谓的缺点也有一个有优点就是他们教出来的学生基础好。 也许那些实用派的学校教出来的学生一开始看起来还不错，但是到了以后工作中真正遇到问题了估计还是S的学生能解决的多。
虽然MFE大部分学校设置的初衷是professional oriented，但是作为一个需要很强技术性的领域我认为扎实学基础还是很必要的

1 MSFMat Stanford is a small program,with less competition. With Stanford's reputation, you can get even more interviews than CMU or NYU student. cuz there are only less than 15 persons competing with you at Stanford MSFM. In NYU or CMU, you will be faced with competition with 30 or 80 persons and many of they have had several years full time experience.
2 Once you get the interview, whether you can get a offer is totally dependent on you own knowledge or your preparation. It has nothing to do with what's your program. The interviewer only care about your own ability, not where you come from.
3 Do not believe the statistical result of each program. It stands for nothing. And as far as I know, until now, students from CMU who have got summer intern offer are mostly those who have full time experience before.

So it really doesn't matter which program you choose. The key is you try your best to prepare for interview and perform your best in the interview. I choose Stanford is simply because I want to meet different people here, not just business guys. And now I know lots of guys who are passionate about starting their own businesses here. You can see and feel the unique entrepreneurs spirits at Stanford.

Sorry, I'm not mean to say CMU is not good. There are some excellent students who have got good intern offers with no W\E. But they are minority for sure. And the key I want to say is that the reason why they could get offers is due to their own ability, not which program they come from. So no matter they are in CMU, or Stanford, or NYU, or other program, they can get interns absolutely.

Sorry, I'm not mean to say CMU is not good. There are some excellent students who have got good intern offers with no W\E. But they are minority for sure. And the key I want to say is that the reason why they could get offers is due to their own ability, not which program they come from. So no matter they are in CMU, or Stanford, or NYU, or other program, they can get interns absolutely.

cmu找intern是不错，但是也有不少人拿不到full time的，不仅仅是投行的
