第三章主谓一致中FLIP IT中的例子
Wrong:There IS a young man and an older woman at the bus stop.
Flip it!：A young man and an older woman AREthere at the bus stop.
Right:There ARE a young man and an older woman at the bus stop.

there be不是应该就近原则的么？
求NN解答

22楼虽然只是依稀记得，但在我看来已经可以解释there be服从就近原则还是只是倒装的问题了。
在口语中，因为说出来的话后来不能改正，所以就采用就近原则，而不考虑and后面的单复数形式；
在书面语中，因为句子是深思熟虑后书写下来的，所以there be就是一个倒装句式而已。
以上是我的理解。

我觉得，subject is a compound subject(a young and an older woman),这是一个复合主语，所以是plural，并且，and连接不同名词构成复数结构,verb is plural。所以，不看there be structure, we could say it is plural.
