MSOR ad from Columbia

刚收到columbia MSOR的ad,是MFE转过去的，不过听说这个专业很不好，估计最后会去GaTech的QCF了吧。还有UMich 的MFE被wl了，不知道转成ad的几率有多大？

我也有收到gatech QCF, columbia msor，我应该会去rutgers msmf。 gatech location 不是很好，columbia msor 觉得实在太水，而且感觉不CARE student, only cares about money

i am from OR and i knew fellow Chinese students (08 and 09 intakes) are getting offers (FT or summer) from GS, Citi, DB, UBS, CICC, and consulting firms like ZS. I'd say more than half of Chinese students got interviews wth Buldge Brackets (think GS MS ML Nomra...). One thing the above discussion is missing is that not all OR students want to do finance. I knew students applied for PhD's (one MSOR student has got PhD offer from IEOR and he is Chinese) in Finance, IE..., and they didn't apply for any jobs. Some want to do Consulting/IE/Production Management... This semester I am taking Dynamic Pricing which has nothing to do with finance (think airlines/hotels...) but the professor, who is top2 in the industry, and the lectures are just fantastic.

I am not here to persuade you to go anywhere, if you want to go with GIT, which is a non-target, that's totally fine as people have their preferences. I am just clearing things up for IEOR.

请问前辈现在直接申OR的录取情况怎么样吖？我的材料一月中就送到系里了，很担心............现在FE转OR的同学都收到AD了，不过我还是什么消息都没有.................

哥大这个OR肯定比FE水，不过瘦死骆驼比马大，如果需要ivy渡个金啥的也不错。像楼主方向比较清晰的话还是选个自己觉得实用些的吧。

我倒没有这个意思，只是同级别比较OR中的finance concentration比mfe差一点点，不过再怎么说也是块金字招牌

没给钱啊，ad上说钱都给phd留着呢。背景是香港中文大学，gpa3.56, major gpa 3.71, ibt 103, gre 1460+3.5, 一年美国交换经验

个人觉得还是去columbia的or吧。
git那个我有几个学姐去了。找到工作实习的真实少之又少。
columbia的or虽没有mfe那么有竞争力（在找finance方面的工作的时候）
但是我相信columbia的名声可以为你迎来很多面试机会。剩下就要看自己个人能力了
而且地处纽约，你会发现面试，参加招聘会什么的特别方便。。
许多在其他地方读mfe的人都想方设法飞到纽约 参加那些招聘会还有面试呢。

“Never worry about the ad from ieor from Columbia (not including FE),
Got the ad you only need to be a normal people and willing to pay for the tuition, nothing else.
Last year only OR admit 180 students and 60% is from china.
When take the class it just llike you are in the mainland china.
For the job placement, you can ask the previous 3 years students,
only about 1/20 can got a decent job.
This year for the summer internship, students from mainland china in OR got 0 offer. ”

那个是个叫wangxianming03的人发的，你可以在Global Derivatives上搜下，基本全是黑columbia的贴，不知是否真这么严重，感觉columbia从ivy一下降到野鸡大学似的

恩，我听说对于columbia mfe一切不好的言论最开始就是出自 global derivatives.
个人觉得那些评价的不是很客观。
国外读书的中国人普遍speak highly of columbia
但是中国内地不少人视之为发AD的水校& 视他家的master ad为水program.
要知道，在纽约只有1所很好的大学--columbia
纽约还有所好的大学叫---NYU
