标题: 同位语还是独立主格？
这样一句话：
Scientists have found high levels of iridium in certain geological formations around the world, results that suggest the cataclysmic impact of a meteor millions of years ago.

其中results that suggest the cataclysmic impact of a meteor millions of years ago 是独立主格还是同位语啊？我怎么觉得结构上都可以啊？

这句是曼哈顿书上的原句，就是很混乱，书上说是独立主格，然后在这之间一直以为这是同位语的形式。。。。大神们，怎么破~~~~~~~~~~~

明确两个区别：
1：同位语修饰名词起补充说明作用
2：独立主格修饰主句动词或整个句子所以分析results修饰谁了我认为 results 修饰整个句子所以为独立主格结构

看看这个：相同点
结构相同，都是SVO+ comma or dash+（Prep）+ Noun + noun modifier
不同点
appositive：
COMMA + CONCRETE NOUN usually stands for the DIRECTLY PRECEDING NOUN.
absolute phrase：
COMMA + ABSTRACT NOUN is allowed to stand for the ENTIRE IDEA OF THE PRECEDING CLAUSE.。

就是说：同位语跟在修饰名词后面起到解释说明独立主格是放在句首句尾然后由一个抽象名词引导修饰整个句子起状语作用

同位语从句：
i went to the bar with john smith, a consultant in los angeles.
here, "a consultant" (a CONCRETE noun) refers ONLY to "john smith" (the preceding noun).

--> here, "a strategy" (an ABSTRACT noun) stands for the WHOLE IDEA of putting 5 receivers on the line.

A. a method to protect
B. as a method protecting
C. protecting
D. as a protection of
E. to protect
A：这样a method 若果做同位语会紧邻military equipment，修饰它，不对
如果作为独立主格修饰nimal-hide shields with wooden frames were essential items of military equipment这整句话显然也是不对的

有不足之处望大神们指出啊！！
