我记得某培训机构的老师说，考简洁时，同根词比较起来的话，动词>形容词>抽象名词>动名词。在这里用D项用了a protection，即protect的抽象名词形式，不简洁。 而这里他用“a”protection修饰 “ essential items ”（复数）当然是不对的啦~ 望有帮助作者: kingarthur00 时间: 2011-3-10 10:42

ls说的a protection和items不一致，的确能解释：“is awkward in reference to items?” 某机构的培训老师说：能解释“using the noun form protection creates wordiness”，偶也上过“某”培训机构，哈哈

(1) 如果要表达“作为。。。”时，as......短语一般有三种：用在句首，比如“As a mother, I do this.”，用在句尾，但前面不加逗号，比如“I do this as a mother.” ，或者作为插入语，比如“I, as a mother, do this.”；并且，这里as后面的内容应该和要修饰的内容逻辑上一致。 因此如果把as开头的介词短语放在句末，前面加上逗号，修饰shields或者items，是一种awkward。 另外，从内容上来说，用as a protection of...来修饰也是imprecise的，因为shields或者items本身不是作者想要表达的protection of worriers，作者想说的是这种做法是一种protection。因此，用protecting来表达这种做法的“功能结果”（某培训机构老师用语）是最好的。 (2) 名词protection比动词啰嗦，因此wordiness，不解释。 (3) protection用来指向items也是awkward的，因为它是单数，而items是复数。
