关于Duke的Optional essay - ChaseDream

偶今年11月份离职，是不是要在Optional essay中解释原因呢？写多少字好呢？

偶是因为怀孕离职，从非洲回国，可不可以说1，因为怀孕路途遥远要提前从非洲回国，2，准备用这段时间学习法语将来发展在非洲的Non profit 事业，并且为将来的MBA学习做准备。

但是问题是，这篇Optional ESSAY要不要写呢？11月离职一直到申请算不算Career gap呢？因为学校是明确要求在optional essay 中说明Career gap的？

我还是那个非NN，建议你写，因为你不光解释了gap的问题，也解释了为什么目前没有工作的问题。

写了不会减分的。不过不要罗嗦，简单交待下就好，理由很充分。

需要解释。毕竟你不希望学校把你读MBA的动机理解成对工作现状的不满。实际上，现在有一份很好的工作，同时你的上司能够给你写推荐信，更能说明MBA是适合你的一个很好的选择。

但你刚怀孕，等到入学的时候孩子应该是刚出生或准备出生（我不太懂啊），那么MBA对于你来说就是一个很重大的决定（无论从感情上还是现实中），你可能需要花点心思考虑一下如何说服Admission office，你确实认为“now” is the best time for you to take an MBA study。

我不太理解你所说的“因为怀孕路途遥远回国”是指什么；如果辞去工作是为了学习，学的什么？如果是为了准备MBA[比如GT考试]，恐怕不是一个很好的说辞。

I came back from Botswana to China on November 11th 2008 and am currently unemployed.
My prior post was Public Relations Officer of Chinese Embassy in Botswana. I got pregnant in Botswana and planed to deliver my baby in China. Botswana is tens of thousands of miles ways from China, and a single fight between the two countries takes more than 16 houses. As I had to make the trip alone, for the safety of the baby and myself, I decided to fly back to China before the delivery date came too near.
Although I have not work since November 2008, I made a study plan which will fully utilize the period from November to next September. I am going to study my sixth language, French, to facilitate my future career in undeveloped regions including Africa where French is widely spoken. In the meantime, I am going to review and preview basic economic knowledge to ensure a steady start of the MBA study in fall 2009.
