是的，it指代前句的主语。不能指代修饰语中的词。

因为adj.+adj.+n.其中两个形容词都是用来修饰后面的那个名词。adv.+adj.+n.中，adv.用来修饰adj.，adj.用来修饰n. 这道题中应该用currently来修饰temperate，而不是用current来修饰area.我是这么理解的。。
