请教:语法大全——最新真题一套 (22题)--- 2 能这样省略吗?

2.     Consumer confidence levels, which many economists consider an early indication of the economy’s direction, sagged as the stock market tumbled, but not dramatically enough for giving a clear picture of new spending patterns.


(A) tumbled, but not dramatically enough for giving


(B) tumbled, but not dramatically enough to give


(C) tumbled, and not so dramatically as to have given


(D) has tumbled, and not dramatically enough to giveB


(E) has tumbled, but not so dramatically as to give


选是只能选B了,请问(B)中but后是省了sagged吗?  有这种省略方式吗?but是要求平行结构的,省了就不平行了呀!


语法大全中还有这样的题吗?

In my understanding (not sure), the things omitted should run like this:

Consumer confidence levels, which many economists consider an early indication of the economy’s direction, sagged as the stock market tumbled, but (consumer confidence levels are) not dramatically enough to give a clear picture of new spending patterns.

Reason, the logical subject of the later sentence should be the one in the preceding sentence.

Please revise my view!!

我觉得这里是省略了sagged。

并列句第二句所用的动词和第一句完全一样时,则第二句的动词省略。

看来ETS认为可以这样省略了。

同意LES

sagged as ....tumbled, but not (sagged)... enough to give...

應該是省略相同動詞
