OG86 这样改对不对?

86. Having the right hand and arm being crippled by a sniper's bullet during the

First World War. Horace Pippin, a Black American painter, worked by holding the

brush in his right hand and guiding its movements with his left

(A)  Having the right hand and arm being crippled by a sniper's bullet during the First World War

(B)   In spite of his right hand and arm being crippled by a sniper's bullet during the First World War

(C)  Because there had been a sniper's bullet during the First World War that crippled his right hand and arm

(D)  The right hand and arm being crippled by a sniper's bullet during the First World War

(E)   His right hand and arm crippled by a sniper's bullet during the First World War

改成 having thehis right arm crippled by a sniper's bullet during。。Horace pippin。。。

我觉得在语法上是正确的,但在逻辑上having。。done是有“故意使”的意思,所以依然不能选。

不过我觉得高中时经常学having放在句首,其否定形式是not having。。。

不对,have sth done没错,但是having sth done我就觉得有问题,起码逻辑上having表示持续或重复的动作,要是放在这个题上,right hand and arm  of Horace Pippin 不停地或重复地被crippled,根本改变了原义,而且不符合常理。

Ok this also very simple. Remember "being" is 99% considered as wordy and awkward in the GMAT. There are exceptions, but one need to find those exceptions. So, ignoring exceptions, you can rule out choices (A), (B) and (D).

Between choice (C) and (E), in choice (C) there are two reasons to not to select this choice.

1. Wordy as compare to (E).
2. The usage of had been states that the bullet keep on crippling his arm for some times in past. However, in reality the bullet had just crippled his arm once.
