这题由于搜出了原句，所以看来是选A无疑了，但我想问下A中为什么会出现sheltering呢？是作什么成分的？

sheltering我觉得应该是分词作状语，动作发出者是Inuit people，所以用主动形态。

分词做状语，用来引导前面主句的目的或者结果，这里应该用来引导前面一句话形成的结果吧。
