我觉得it received 是 capital的定语从句，由于capital在从句中作宾语，所以省略了that，it指的是Japan。

第二题划线部分是啥？？

第1题：
这里相当于省略了一个that，it received ……是定语从句，用来修饰capital，it指代Japan
Japan used the huge sum of capital （that） it received from the United States after the Second World Warto help build amodern industrial system
句子主要成分是：Japan used capital to help build a system
（that) it received from the United States after the Second World War 就是capital的定语从句
第2题：
“，”之前说invertebrates会将starches转化成carbohydrates
“，”之后是结果状语，也就是这种转化是如何起作用的：通过manufacturing their own antifreeze来起作用。
所以一定是用manufacturing引导，故DE用到manufacture必错
另外manufacture的主语是复数名词，对应的应该是their而不是its，故AB错
综上，我认为选C
