15. The proliferation of computer games designed to involve many players at once were first developed before the widespread availability of high-speed Internet connections.

解释如下
[The subject and the verb must make sense together. In the original, the proliferation ... were first developed does not make sense. Rather,
the games themselves were developed. Several solutions are possible.

请问解释里面说the proliferation... were first developed does not make sense里面的主语是指 the proliferation 还是指the proliferation of the computer games啊？
GMAT在判断主谓一致的时候貌似把of前后的名词拆开来，以这道题为例：主语要么是the proliferation要么是the computer games 我一直没搞懂类似the proliferation of hte computer games这个词组不能被理解是主语吗？

主语是"The proliferation of computer games designed to involve many players at once"，主语的核心词是the proliferation，所以也可以直接称主语是the proliferation.
