My two cents are:

Sometimes I could not fully undertand some of the listening paragraphes, such as related to U.S. history. I took dictation drills. And it helped me get improvements a lot.

I did not use any specific methods, but while I was doing listening sections, whenever there were difficulties, I just went back and spent a long time taking aural dictation, like subtitling a film. Let say yesterday I met star spangled banner, today I cracked african music appreciation, and tmw i will get straight out whatever. Gradually I will have less and less difficulties in my listening.
