选E，OG上说正确答案必须能establish the contrast between the size of the United States population and the activities of its citizens，而只有D、E能establish the contrast 。我在朗文上查了一下although的用法，没有提到所谓的contrast。我只知道although引导的是让步状语从句，不知OG所说的contrast是何妨神圣，一定要although或despite来引导？

哪位大牛请指点迷津

I think the two sentences have different (inverse) meaning, so it is a contrast.

It is a 让步状语从句 to some extent

although 虽然...但是...

我认为：OG的contrast主要意思就是说构成转折语气，前后内容不就是contrast了吗？ ^_^
