正确答案是选C,当时我选的是B，因为我觉得C后面有v-ing这样的形式，有修饰oil barge的嫌疑，所以没有选。请告诉我为甚C后面的polluting是正确的？我一直对",......v-ing”形式充满了疑问

and前后是两个主句，Ving只做第二个主句的状语，不会变成第一个主句的状语。

在这里，原句想要表达出一种因果关系，什么是因?什么是果？前两个动作是因，后两个动作是果，所以，这里句尾的ving表示结果。

首先简单看下事件发生的顺序1，ran off。 2，leaked。3cause blah blah
（插播个人看法：G在构造句子的时候一般不会选那种高中课本的，一个主语发出两个动作然后用and连接这种很简单的句子）而是不停在里面塞入修饰成分，让人看着很蒙，但是又合乎逻辑，暗含了所有要传达的信息。
ran off必然是最先发生的动作，然后leak了什么，这个cause可以理解为伴随leak而带来的consequence~~

B为什么错呢？with结构修饰很灵活，有可能产生歧义，比如跑去修饰了the coast of San Juan, Puerto Rico这个noun。另外B的verb sequence有问题。
