sports and social activities are just as important as classes and libraries and should receive equal financial support
as far as i am concerned, i don't agree with the claim that sports and social activities are just as important as classes and libraries and should receive equal financial support. i think it really depends on schools to say which is more important and even if they are equally important, i don't believe they should receive the same amount of financial support.
first of all, different colleges have their own focuses. Some may be more famous of their sports activities while others may focus on academic more. So school should put more money into the thing that they are good at to keep their position in that field. If a school just won a NACC champ, then it should give more money to the basketball team. If a school is doing science well, then it should put more money to scientific field to keep their strength. Once a school got famous because of its strength, it can recruit better students.
Second, even if sports and social activities are just as important as classes and libraries for a school, I don’t think they should receive equal financial support. Unlike classes and libraries, sports and social activities can benefit from other things, for example, supported by sponsors. Classes and libraries can also receive financial supports in other ways but in a relative longer period and a smaller amount of money. A lot of sports team will get money from company like Nike or Addidas by winning a champ, but a scientist can only get money from company by probably getting a nobel price which may take decades to win so.
In conclusion, I disagree with the claim that sports and social activities are just as important as classes and libraries and should receive equal financial support because different schools have different focuses and sports and social activities can get money easier from company.
