答案是A
答案显示setting free是作filing 的伴随，但是如果作伴随的话，应该优先做谓语stunned的伴随。而且很多题目也是依据是否做谓语伴随来判断对错的。这道题目我也可以说by后面不是主要成分，setting free伴随不到这里。想不通，请教各位大牛！

另外， the more than 500中的“the” 为什么要加呢，后面slaves已经有定语限定了“who were legally ....”，不加the 也不会被认为不是Robert 的slaves。请教各位！

setting是修饰stun,这是我的想法。the应该是特指，一种可能性就是robert的slave不止500个，只有其中的500个是合法的。。。

setting free作伴随，不是指修饰filing，是对主句整句的补充说明。另外，the在这里是特指那些more than 500 slaves，who were legally considered只是修饰slaves，不修饰500 slaves。说的简单点就是：who were legally considered的有800人，而setting free只是550人，加the是特指800人中的那些550人，而不是550外的人。

有道理，不过感觉蛮难区别这些细微差别的，如果不加“the”，怎么感觉more than 500 slaves范围还是在800人中呢，既然who were legally considered 是修饰slaves

想了想，感觉the more than 500是强调某个人群，而more than 500是强调数量

如果这样的话，who were legally considered就修饰more than 500 slaves了，而不是slaves

看了2楼的帖，突然对who were legally considered 到底修饰slaves 还是修饰 the more than 500 slaves不确定了，一般情况下who是修饰之前的一个名词的，有没有特殊情况下，who连前面一个名词的修饰语也一起修饰呢？另外，比较有意思的是，好像加了the, 重心就落在slaves上了，不加the, more than 500是重心。
