实在搞不懂这句话到底是神马从句，算同位语从句么？请各路大神指点迷津！

我觉得可以分为三个部分来理解这句话：
1.Yellow jackets number among the 900 or so soecies of the world's social wasps.
number作为谓语
2.wasps that live in a highly cooperative and organized societyconsisting almost entirely of females.
live 作为谓语，cooperative and organized作为形容词短语修饰society。consisting现在分词作为形容词来修饰society。实际上, cooperative, organized, and consisting三者都是形容词用来修饰society.
3.the queen and her sterile female workers.
名词短语用来解释前面的females

在OG的官方解释中，说C选项错是因为： The sentence structure makes it unclear what "almost all females" describes.
我疑惑的是，为什么官方解释不说which的用法也是错误的呢？难道官方是默许which的这种用法吗？
求大神指点！！！
