考试的时候，如何解这道题？

来自大全，题目如下：

In the minds of many people living in England, before Australia was Australia, it was the antipodes, the
opposite pole to civilization, an obscure and unimaginable place that was considered the end of the world.
(A) before Australia was Australia, it was the antipodes
(B) before there was Australia, it was the antipodes
(C) it was the antipodes that was Australia
(D) Australia was what was the antipodes
(E) Australia was what had been known as the antipodes
我用1min选出了A。。。看到了E，我又用了2min去确定E比A好。。。但答案其实就是A，答案说E里面的时态不对。非常同意！如果是had been，那么后面未划线部分也必须是had been，而事实上并不是。。。搞清楚答案非常简单。。。。但是，我有一个疑问，在考试的时候，怎么能提高解题速度呢？如果把一个句子的方方面面 --比如这题里未划线部分非重要部分的时态 --都要搞清楚，似乎太过于费时间。。

时态方面，要格外敏感完成时态——尤其是过去完成时态，因为过去完成时态的运用是有很多限制的：必须是为了强调时间的先后，一般句子中都会有一般过去时提醒人时间的先后问题。

这个题而言，一看A，我就会把它候选，因为before状语从句，后面主句主语it指代Austria没有歧义
B选项，there be一看就不好，如果能用主系表结构表达清楚的句子，就不要用there be
C：it was...that was...里面，it无指代。后面同位语应该修饰antipodes不是澳大利亚
D：Australia was what was...不好
E：首先时态不对，lz也一定明白了，其次，Australia was what...结构本身就不好，后面还是被动！这个答案基本上就是错误的合集啊亲~最后，语义上也不通：澳大利亚是之前被人为地antipodes。改变了原句语意

个人觉得，SC要反复去做题，反复去分析，提高对正确句子的好感。
我的Verbal也不好，个人拙见！

我和lz翻了一样的错误。
但是最后发现句意解题才是唯一的方法。
句意要强调it is the antipodes....
E把Aus说成是Antipodes....完全两回事。。。

如果是一道难题的话，2min不算多

题目的难度不一定是以划线的长度来判断的
