为啥不是but were evolved?怎么看怎么应该用被动呢？
请教啦

首先这个考的是平行结构; "Not X but Y"中的 "X" and "Y" must be paralleled. "
Here, X = "spring", Y ="evolved".

而后，你看第一个"his inventions did not spring to life"而不是"his inventions were not sprang to life."作者前面既然用了主动时态来描述"his inventions"，后面除非你看到"by"这样的词汇，否者不能用被动语态。
