Visitors to the park have often looked up into the leafy canopy and saw monkeys sleeping on the branches, like socks on a clothesline.

D) seen monkeys sleeping on the branches, with arms and legs hanging
E) seen monkeys sleeping on the branches, whose arms and legs have hung

我想请问，（忽略E中的时态问题）
1)D选项中, "with arms and legs hanging" 修饰的是"monkeys"而不是"branches"是不是因为"monkeys" 是中心词，而"on the branches" 是个介词词组修饰monkeys?

2)假设中心词是"monkeys","with arms and legs hanging"修饰的是中心词"monkeys". 为什么“whose arms and legs have hung”修饰的是"branches"而不是中心词? 请解释下相关的语法点。

我想whose引导的从句就近修饰branches吧，而with引导的那个从句只能作为伴随修饰monkeys,因为树枝有手有脚，不符合逻辑吧。

with + n +ing是3大种独立主格结构结构中的一种。修饰前面整个句子，做状语，表示伴随的条件，原因，状态。具体独立主格结构结构的用法去看看BY的就知道了。
