今天早上Clear Admit发的,大家可以参考下:

The last two weeks have been busy ones for the business school community, and there's quite a bit of news for us to cover. We begin by turning our attention to Yale School of Management, where the school has begun accepting applications for its pre-MBA leadership program, a two-week summer program designed to attract promising college students and recent graduates of color who might not otherwise be considering management education. In Round 2 admissions news, Harvard Business School distributed approximately 800 interview invitations on February 12th, but according to a recent post to HBS Admissions Director Dee Leopold's blog, about 50 more invitations will be extended before the school's official decision notification date on April 6th. Meanwhile, both Chicago Booth and NYU Stern have formed partnerships with Deutsche Bank to expand research and education related to risk management. Wharton has announced that it will offer a free live lecture - to be conducted via video - for prospective applicants. The lecture is set to be conducted today, Tuesday, February 23rd, from 3:00-4:30 p.m. EST.
In addition to these school-related announcements, a recent Financial Times report indicates that EMBA graduates are pleased with the career impact of their degrees. In a similar vein, another Financial Times report highlights the fact that interest in the MBA remains high despite the financial crisis. Finally, if you're beginning to consider how to best finance your MBA, make sure to check out our advice on that topic.

LIFE OF AN APPLICATION
Although the lengthy period of time between a school's application deadline and final notification may seem interminable, as Peter Johnson, Director of Admissions at Berkeley's Haas School of Business, explained in an exclusive Clear Admit Admissions Director Q&A, this extended wait is simply a function of the time and care the admissions committee devotes to its review of each and every application.  He explains that the interview process is of the utmost importance. "Certainly not all of those who are invited to interview will get admitted, but getting invited to an interview is always a good sign," he states. "At Haas, we don't admit people without an interview, so that's one of the key pieces along the application road."

So why the long wait between interviews and final decisions?  As Randall Sawyer, Director of Admissions at Cornell/Johnson, discussed in his Q&A, each file continues to be carefully reviewed during this period.  Following each interview, he explains, "we usually get a three- to four-page dossier of the interview with a recommendation.  The interviewer picks one of the five designations ('don't recommend,' 'recommend with reservation,' 'recommend,' 'recommend with confidence,' or 'highly recommend') and then it goes to committee and we talk about that student and decide whether or not to make that offer."  Sawyer further explained that the ultimate decision on whether or not to admit an applicant is based on a group consensus, rather than a vote.  As a result, the discussions that take place among Johnson admissions committee members during the time between the interview and final decision can be quite lengthy and complicated.
While some schools rely on consensus when making the final decision, other schools employ different strategies.  Rose Martinelli, Admissions Director at Chicago Booth, explained in her Q&A that, at Chicago, "once the interview is complete and the interview feedback is submitted, the complete file is given to an admissions director who has not previously reviewed the application.  She or he makes a decision to admit or deny the candidate."
Similarly, Soojin Kwon Koh, Director of Admissions at Michigan/Ross, shed light on a different decision process in her Q&A.  She explains, "applications are randomly assigned to and reviewed by Admissions Committee members to conduct a 'first read' to determine whether or not to invite an applicant to interview.  The second reader makes a pre-interview decision on the basis of the application material.  Once the interview is completed, the second reader reviews the interview report and renders a post-interview decision.  All post-interview decisions are reviewed weekly by the Adcom.  Evaluations are confirmed or changed based on the committee's review. After all decisions have passed through the Adcom review, the director of admissions reviews all decisions."
Finally, J.J. Cutler, Wharton's Dean of Admissions, took the time to acknowledge the effort that each candidate puts into his or her application in his Q&A. "It's a very difficult process. We appreciate and respect how much time and energy and thought go into most of our applications, and that's why we treat them with such respect when we go through them, and why we go through them as many times as we do. We have a lot of empathy for what it takes to go for it and to put yourself out there. For students that are applying now we really encourage them to be reflective and to be themselves, and we really appreciate all the work they put into their applications."

From these reports, it's clear that not having heard from one's top choice school immediately after an interview is certainly not bad news.  The process is simply involved and very thorough.  To read the complete series of our Admissions Director Q&A blog posts and get more information about the life of an application, visit the Clear Admit Blog!
