请问 speculation 后面的从句是不是that 和whether 都可以引导，一定都要求是虚拟语气吗？如这里的may have been

这里的may have been不是虚拟语气吧，如果是，好象应该是might

但speculation后面的同位语从句能否用whether引导，我也想知道。

我有点不明白，既然speculation本身是猜测，那么为什么从句中还用may呢？这不是冗余了吗？如果用may可以，又为什么说用whether不可以呢？

speculate后面不用跟虚拟语气，因为本身就没有假设后面的是真的，只是推测而已。

仍然是楼上的老问题，speculation whether的用法到底对不对？

本题that我认为不是宾语从句而是同位语从句解释名词speculation。那么whether是否可以引导同位语从句呢？
