正确答案是E，我想问下这里的being是什么词性？为何要用这个词，直接用are不可以吗?
the others being Richard Wright's Native Son and Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man是一个什么结构呢，主系表吗？这句话在句子里算是什么成分呢？修饰谁？
另外破折号又在这里起到什么作用，把破折号改为逗号可以吗？

个人感觉哦，不确定对不对呢：
being这个结构是现在分词做伴随状语，破折号后面的部分也可以用完整句子表示，也就是楼主说的用are也ok，破折号在这里的用处是补充说明主句的内容，破折号换成逗号也ok，但是那样的话就不能用完整的句子表示了。

being 是现在分词。这是个独立主格结构，解释说明前面的。如果用破折号连接可以用are，我个人比较倾向这个，看选项时下意识的寻找，没有的话只能选这个了。但是如果前面是逗号，此处只能用being，因为逗号不具有连接完整句子的功能。

这道题关键在于弄清独立主格解释说明的是谁--不是black Americans而是novels，相应的后面部分的中心语自然应该是书而不是人
