答案是E

请问（1）less不是修饰可数名词么？为什么可接pollutants?
(2) 可否看成正确答案E省略了does？如果是，那么应该是 less of certain pollutants than does those burning gasoline or diesel fuel还是 less of certain pollutants than those burning gasoline or diesel fuel does呢？

less是little的比较级修饰不可数

如果有dose的话是后面那种因为这个题是主语比较主谓宾全的主语比较后面加上dose是为了防止歧义而表明是比较的主语而不是宾语
但是这种情况下不需要dose因为本身不会产生歧义
vehicles powered by natural gas emit less of certain pollutants than those burning gasoline or diesel fuel
those指代的是vehicles 所以是天然气的vehicles跟gosoline or diesel fuel的vehicls相比较不会造成宾语比较的歧义因为vehicles powered by natural gas不会emit those(vehicles) 所以就不需要加上dose了

但pollutants不是可数的嘛。。。less修饰的难道不是pollutants？
