大家好！


我现在拿到了匹兹堡（official letter）和亚利桑那州立 （verbal）的offer，


1. 匹兹堡和我的研究兴趣非常合，教授看上去人也非常好，整个program的氛围我感觉也很不错，也不会刷人，奖学金稍微多一丢丢， 最近的placement一个去了南卡（不是亚洲人）一个去了剑桥博后。
2. ASU高一个档，UTD 排名也很高。但是最近的placement好像是industry或者teaching school。


提前感谢大家的建议，在这里讲一下我的背景供大家参考：


985本，理科专业，一点没学过finance。
一硕coursework（6.4/7.0） 二硕research  （7.0/7.0）
一篇一作publication （A-ABCD）
GRE 170+154
没考语言，但是我口语还不错，反馈都是面试给分比较高。

Pitt的话，本身faculty数量就不多，Denis年纪挺大了不知道近几年会不会退，Moeller是dean office的更偏行政一点。

Here is how things work for good programs. Most schools will happily organize visit days for admitted students. For international students, it can be in person or Zoom. Most current students and recent graduates will be happy to talk with admitted students. If not, it should be considered a red flag.

That's easier said than done -- at least so in the virtual space. In reality, currently enrolled students are hesitant to respond to candidates or incoming students' queries concerning their program; even if they do, few are forthcoming enough. Faculty members often are more responsive but grudge spending their precious time on that. Campus visits would be a better idea. In this regard, kudos goes to the schools (e.g., WUSTL) including campus visits as part of the admissions process. But those are infeasible for most international candidates.

Schools rarely disclose "inside information" on their websites. On the other hand, it is not uncommon that information publicized there, including placement data, contains omissions, inaccuracies, and even errors. Interestingly, the lower a school ranks, the more prevalent those are. However, it would be "insane" to dismiss such information as worthless; the correct approach would be to use that with a critical eye.

看program给你的full placement是有用的，但这个也是很noisy的事情。建议约一下高年级phd及近几年的graduate，大多数情况下他们会愿意跟你聊上半个小时。这是最有用的信息渠道。

Thank you for your sharing! I actually have access to the historical placement information of both Pitts and ASU, and I will carefully check that case by case.
