It可以向后指代，前提是句子不能有歧义。这题从未划线部分的its已经可以确定it的指代。发现A中it的指代也是The caspian lake，并没有指代歧义。

举例中文：
它恶狠狠的盯着小红帽，狼好像把她当做它的食物一样。

你说它的指代会有歧义吗？

being called a sea的逻辑主语是Caspian，而E选项根据主句和从句主语一致的原则看，being called a sea的主语是the largest sea，翻译过来“尽管最大的湖被称作是海，最大的湖是Caspian”，句意上不和逻辑呀

你好我想问一下a选项为什么不能说which是指代the largest lake呢 the largest lake覆盖了…… 不是也说的通吗

跳过Earth修饰the largest lake？
那英语永远都不存在指代不明的语法错误了。
