(A) as pearls moving mysteriously from one necklace to another
(B) like pearls moving mysteriously from one necklace to another
(C) as pearls do that move mysteriously from one necklace to others
(D) like pearls do that move mysteriously from one necklace to others(B)
(E) as do pearls that move mysteriously from one necklace to some other one After reviewing all the discussion links I can find, I still have some doubt regarding the explanation, from OG, why C, D, and E are faulty. OG explains that because the verb do suggests that the migrating pearls are presented as a real phenomenon, not as a figurative illustration. But as stated in this summary, "补出助动词的原则是必须和主句的类型一致,而且要时态一致。 BoardID=23&ID=48608 My point is that in the clause genes can “jump”, the verb is "can", not "do". Therefore, the verb "do" makes C, D, and E all wrong. It should be as peals can ...... NN, what do you think?
well, personally, I think as you quoted " presented as a real phenomenon, not as a figurative illustration." "can" might leave problem unresolved.
但问题是如果把 E 改成 as can pearls ....
形式是like + n
in choice B like pearls moving mysteriously from one necklace to another
moving mysteriously from one necklace to another 做定语修饰的是pearls.
按照ETS的解释:because the verb do suggests that the migrating pearls are presented as a real phenomenon, not as a figurative illustration.
但问题是如果把 E 改成 as can pearls ....
As far as I am concerned, OG does not use the figurative function of "as", "as" is only used as a conjunction.
Further, even if you change "do" to "can", I do not think it is right, becuase pearls CAN NOT move mysteriously from one necklace to some other one.
Well, I don's think I am clear, sigh! Sorry for that!
(1)当比较词之前的谓语动词为一般现在时或一般过去时,比较词后应该相应的用do/does/did/is/was/were/are来替代(主语对比, 有时候动词可以省略 eg. He gains more weight than Tom.)
(2)当比较词之前的谓语动词由助动词(情态动词)+主要动词组成,则在比较词之后保留此助动词(情态动词)即可;

这可能是楼主MM理解的误区...“ 我觉得在这里虽然珍珠不can,但作为一个比喻是一定要这么说的,如同正确答案 like pearls moving mysteriously from one necklace to another 也包含了这个意思---就是珍珠move

agree
