A recent study has found that within the past few years, many doctors had elected early retirement rather than face the threats of lawsuits and the rising costs of malpractice insurance.

　　(A) had elected early retirement rather than face

　　(B) had elected early retirement instead of facing

　　(D) have elected to retire early rather than facing

　　(E) have elected to retire early rather than face

答案是E。

这里的时态问题不太懂，为什么主句用的过去式found，从句为什么不把现在完成时改成相应的过去完成时had elected呢？

主句不是过去时，是现在完成时has found，属于现在时态。
从句也就是调查发现的内容。没有明确的“过去的过去”，就不应该用过去完成时。
