标题: Top 20-30的金融博士和Top 40-50的会计博士,去哪个好 [打印本页]

标题: Top 20-30的金融博士和Top 40-50的会计博士,去哪个好

这个问题可能问得有点傻,我自己也喜欢金融.可是要花五年时间,还是要考虑一些毕业后的工作问题.现在会计的需求和供给的比率是大概10:6.而且这个会计博士的学生多分到前50位的商学院,而金融的分配却差一些,不少是到50位外的商学院去的.听听大家的意见,该去哪个.

大陆每年也走不了几个finance的phd！

yx-tan, if you like Finance more than Accounting, i suggest you going to PhD in Finance program.That's your interest and the school is better in terms of ranking. Plus, current placement record may not be a reliable estimator for future placement data, will they?

I agree. Interest itself deserves the five-year time.

FINANCE的PHD可以去INDUSTRY,ACCOUNTING的PHD基本去学校

You interest is the most important thing. Spending five years in something you have no interest is a torture, and hard to imagine you can publish papers if you don't like it. Accounting would take five years in a top school too.

各以前的老师发了个e-mail,他说如果兴趣和训练一样的话,会计比金融更容易成功,不过现在是训练不一样.

其实会计是商学院博士最实惠的,读的人少,需求大,所以找工作容易,钱也不少.前两年好象是十万到十四万,今年听说我以前读书的学校给了个十七万的,不过估计是特例,我以前的学校是私立的,以钱多有名.

金融工资是比会计高,不过这几年差距在减小.而且高是有代价的,金融学的东西比起会计,痛苦了很多.而且由于供求关系的原因,找工作没会计容易.不过金融听上去比会计性感不少.

有人知道金融的供求比率吗?

For Finance, check FMA and AMA websites for recruitment events, position listing, and resume listing, but 99% for faculty job, based on my observations.

the PHD education is to train ppl how to produce paper, even nonsense paper, not for industry job, not for teaching, although good teaching skill is a must in job-hunting nowadays. For ppl who wants industry job, PHD is a waste of time.

For your case, I would suggest you go for Accounting too. Since you raise the question, I assume you are not really LOVE finance, interest is FAR from enough. When you are in, you will know your teacher is exactly right. Think about this, the typical paper in accounting is only 20 pages, seldom more than 30. But the typical paper in finance is no less than 40 pages, even 80 papges. I admit its a partial comparison, but it tells something.

yx-tan, different point of view may confuse you. anyway, it is your decisions and it really depends on you since anyone, except youself, has not sufficient private information as much as you have.

如果你是在国内，得提醒你一下。金融博士有时念着就跟数学博士似的，国内商业本科的来读金融或经济博士要想好了。金融和经济读到博士，内容和国内大家认为的意思完全不一样。

会计博士现在工资已超过金融博士，主要是去大学教课，教课的任务可能会很重。三流大学的会计博士出来就算进LOCAL不入流的大学，年薪也能有九万。有些理科博士毕业出来的工资也就是五六万，但一周就教三门课，会计博士天天给本科生教课，所以工资高。

我觉得首先还是兴趣，到底是以后想做金融方面还是教会计，你对你的数学是不是很有信心，如果你要读金融的话。

严格说，在market study方面，金融和会计在研究的领域上已经很难区分了，所以研究兴趣应该不会是选择的主要问题。但是在就业上就完全不同了。正如楼上张大侠和诸位大侠所说，会计是比较好找工作，同等水平毕业的，收入也比其他商学院专业的要高。现在很多学校的会计要求的数学课程也越来越多了，但是比起金融还是相对容易些。

The pay for Finance PhD(faculty only) is still higher than Accounting, although Accounting is catching up now. The starting salary is about $100,000-150,000 if you can get an assistant professor position with a top-notch research school, but not for local or community college. You can only get paid for about $60,000 in community colleges. If you don't do research, just teaching, not much money. I don't believe you can get paid for $90,000 in a local school after you graduate from a third-tier university.

我说的“LOCAL不入流的大学”和楼上这位说的“community colleges”不是一回事。美国有一大堆不是国家级大学的LOCAL大学，有私立的有州立的，排名排不进前一两百名，但还是远强于community colleges，PAY的也比社区学院高。
美国烂校无数，并不是国家级一流二流大学下面，马上便是community colleges。

呵呵别说三流大学了，我知道有人从中部的四流大学会计学博士毕业，到马里兰的一个LOCAL大学教书，不包括暑假的九个月工资也有八万多，暑假如果教课，还能多拿一万多。

我正在打算申请会计博士，你能分享一下申请经历吗？有什么地方特别需要注意的。我今天六月会计硕士要毕业了。因为不想去公司上班，读博士当教授是我的理想。而且工资不低。谢谢先。
